ADRIATIC SEA, PORT OF VENICE

The Port of Chioggia is in the basin of the same name, which is an integral part of the Venice Lagoon, and is in communication with the Adriatic Sea through its own inlet. The Clodiense port of call performs two functions: the first one inherent to inland navigation, connecting the Adriatic Sea to the Po Valley hinterland and the centers of Mantua, Cremona and Piacenza to Milan; the second one sees it engaged in the role of cabotage with a strong presence in sectors such as ro-ro and ro-pax. It currently consists of two maritime ports of call: Isola Saloni and Val da Rio. It moves about 2 million tons of cargo per year, achieving the highest yield in relation to linear meters of quay.

The expansion of the new port area of Val da Rio, the new areas available and the presence of the Intermodal Fluvial Terminal, make the port of Chioggia the only one able to connect the Adriatic cabotage with inland navigation to the Po Valley, the richest and most prosperous area in the entire country. The port of Chioggia is connected to the national and international transalpine highway network. Thanks to highway connections, goods from the Clodiense port of call easily reach the regions of northern Italy and central Europe. In terms of rail connections, the port of Chioggia port of call can rely on networks that ensure European-level speed and axle capacity. The Clodiense port of call has a total of 3,600 meters of rail tracks connecting with the new port docks. Thanks to the rail connection of the Port of Chioggia with the FS station, there is now the option to route goods to alternative and, above all, competitive modes of transport compared to road transport. Finally, the Port of Chioggia is connected to the ICAO Class “A” Marco Polo Airport of Venice-Tessera.
